We are learning about so many things in the news, somethings make us wonder, some inspire questions, and some make us mad! Please add a post about something that troubles you or makes you ask a question.

We have started our year with a bang, literally! We launched our lovely rockets last week, and boy did they fly! We made predictions for our flight paths based on how we varied our rocket design, and parachute construction, and then tested our hypothesis in the air. Our highest rocket flew 420 feet! We continue our exploration of space into October as we design egg drop space capsules for our ‘eggstranauts’. This design challenge will be a home project, and we are hoping for plenty of family involvement, and probably a few broken eggs! Its ok, science is messy!

Hang on, here we go!

I do this every summer. I am so excited for summer to start, then wham! Summer comes to an end. I hope you have had plenty of fun, I did, and I am looking forward to hearing about your adventures! I can hardly wait for us to get started.

This is my second year teaching at Hedden, and as you may know, 5th grade rocks! We are starting off with astronomy and rocket building in science, reading mysteries and science fiction, and becoming speed demons in multiplication to get us ready for spring math relays. (We came in second last year, and Allen’s class will win next spring, I am sure!) Practice those math facts!
